Iron dealer killed in shooting

A shooting incident in Carapichaima last Sunday night has left 39-year old scrap iron dealer, Jasodra Gangaran, dead.

Gangaram received one gunshot to the lower back after gunmen opened fire on her and two men, Ricardo McAlister, and another identified as Sweetboy Balroop, at her home on Roopsingh Road.

Gangaram and the men were taken to the Couva District Health Facility and then to the San Fernando Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. A post mortem is scheduled for today at the Forensic Science Centre.

Mc Alister, 26, a labourer, also of Roopsingh Road, was shot three times as he attempted to run from the gunmen.

He was shot in his buttocks, hip and shoulder. Balroop, 49, another scrap iron dealer, was shot once in the lower abdomen. Both men, still hospitalised, were reported to be in stable condition.

According to the a report from the Freeport Police, Gangaram, Mc Alister and Balroop, were sitting in her home on Sunday night when a black station wagon pulled up at the front of the house.

Two men jumped out of the vehicle and pointed guns in the direction of the three people.

Several loud explosions were heard. Police investigations are continuing.
