Man charged with stealing WASA pipes

A 28-year-old man was placed on $50,000 bail after he appeared in court charged with larceny of two lengths of 20-inch iron pipes which are believed to have been stolen from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) stockpile in Williamsville. In a press release yesterday, general manager corporate communications, Ellen Lewis, said the ductile iron pipes, valued at $16,000, which were found at Pond Lane off School Road, Gasparillo, were not associated with Monday’s theft.

Antonio Singh, 28, was arrested by WASA security led by security head Anand Ramsoondar at his home around 11 am, after a tip-off. Singh appeared before a Justice of the Peace at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court and was granted $50,000 bail. The excavator operator is expected to reappear in court today. WASA has appealed to dealers of scrap iron and metal to be on the lookout for people offering it’s pipeline infrastructure for sale.
