Homicide investigators suspect the motive behind the murder of scrap iron dealer Deshawn McClean was drug-related.
McClean was shot dead along Rig Road No 1, Claxton Bay, near his home on Saturday night. His death came after telling his mother that was he was going to meet someone named “Blacks”.
A police report stated that around 7.30 pm, Mc Clean was at home with his 59-year-old mother and other relatives.
Shortly after leaving home, relatives heard several explosions. His mother looked outside and saw him lying motionless on the roadway.
Police responded to a report of the shooting, but when they arrived, Mc Clean was already dead. Officers searched the surrounding areas for suspects, but up to yesterday, they did not detain anyone.
Following confirmation of death by a District Medical Officer, undertakers took Mc Clean’s corpse to the mortuary at the San Fernando General Hospital for storage until a transfer to the Forensic Science Centre on Monday for an autopsy.
Crime scene investigators retrieved four 9 mm bullet casings, two 9 mm bullets and a pair of black rubber slippers.
